This is Alentejo’s version of port. A deep, rich, fortified wine packed with prunes, liquorice (the clue’s in the name) and with a spicy, smokey finish. Made with Alicante Bouschet grapes whose fermentation is arrested by the addition of grape spirit whilst there’s still some sugar left. The wine is aged for 4 years in 1000 litre barrels before bottling.
