Week One (3rd)
How to Taste Wine – the Basics, with a brief overview of the History of Wine
Week Two (10th)
Grape Varieties – introduction to ten of the most important grape varieties
Week Three (17th)
Countries and Regions – a look at the World Wine Map, tasting ten wines from the major wine producing countries
Week Four (24th)
Food & Wine Matching – how food can be enhanced by wine, and wine by food. How flavours on the plate can work with flavours in the glass
Throughout the course you will taste at least 36 wines, all of which will have a value between £10 and £40 per bottle. They will include all colours and will feature both sweet and fortified. Before each evening you will receive a box of all the wine samples decanted into 100ml screw top bottles, labelled and ready to pour. You will receive a tasting sheet of all the wines being tasted. All sessions will feature maps, photos and videos. The principle aim of the course is to increase your understanding and experience in the World of Wine, to unravel some of the mysteries – and to enable you to select and serve wines with confidence. Each session will be interactive (though you can opt out should you prefer) and you will enjoy some lovely wines every Wednesday evening through the dark month of February. What better way to prepare yourself for the joys of Spring? Mark Bedford, Director of Caviste, has been a registered lecturer and educator with the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, has visited the majority of the key world wine regions and has been part of the Masters of Wine Programme.
