2017 Niepoort Espumante Agua Viva Baga

£39.00

The Niepoort Espumante Água Viva Baga Cuvée traditional method sparkling was slowly fermented in the bottle utilising only native yeasts before aging for 48 months on its lees.

Tasting Note: A subtly expressive bouquet of aromas reveals a lushness of wild forest fruits such as cherries and redcurrant, accompanied by delicate floral nuances and gentle hints of herbs. A touch of brioche and hazelnut provide finesse to the wine. On the palate, an exquisitely balanced interplay between astringency and bitterness is accompanied by a graceful structure, delicacy, subtleness, and sparkle.

Niepoort

Experience the independent family business, passed successfully for five generations from one Niepoort to the next, with older and younger generations working side by side for a long period. We eagerly anticipate the sixth generation, ready for a future of close collaboration.

Dirk Niepoort, part of the fifth generation, leads the family business, following the retirement of his father, Eduard Rudolph Niepoort. Since his studies in Switzerland, Dirk has been passionate about wine and has brought innovation to the traditional Niepoort brand.

Niepoort strives to maintain its status as a "niche player" by crafting unique ports and Douro wines that blend centuries-old customs with modernity. This combination also encompasses wine from two other regions, the Bairrada and Dão, which have contributed to shaping the Douro - Bairrada - Dão triangle. The newest points in this triangle also "deliver the goods" and hold a significant place for Niepoort, as they possess immense potential by combining the rich heritage of Portugal's winemaking history with the potential for innovation.
