During an El Niño year, there were dry periods with occasional rain, but not to a desperate extent.

In January, the heat gradually increased and a blessing came in the form of 90mm of rain in the last week of the month. This was especially helpful as the six following weeks were dry and hot, with temperatures reaching the mid 30s.
