2018 Chateau Mangot Saint-Emilion Grand Cru (Magnum)

£78.00

The vines - Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon - are cultivated across a variety of soil types and elevations. From clay-limestone hillsides at 35m to limestone plateaus at 90m, and with an average age of 40 years, the vineyard is managed in accordance with environmental practices.

At harvest, grapes are hand-selected, de-stemmed, and then subjected to a cold pre-fermentation maceration. The wine is then vinified in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for four weeks, followed by 13-15 months of barrel-aging (10% in stainless steel). Finally, the wine is blended and bottled 18-20 months after the harvest.

Tasting Note: Intricate aromas of wild berries and herbs, kissed with a hint of spice, introduce the complex flavour of the wine. Rich plums and berries tantalize the palate, balanced by finely-crafted tannins, a perfect harmony of oak, and a bright acidity that lingers elegantly on the finish.

Origin: Bordeaux, France

Blend: Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon

Château Mangot

Nestled in the far eastern reaches of the Saint-Émilion appellation, Château Mangot consists of 37 hectares with a diversity of clay-limestone soils. Whilst vines are naturally the star of the show for the estate’s current guardians, the Todeschini family, 15% of the estate consists of hedges, woods and embankments, which contribute to a rich biodiversity.

Brothers Yann and Karl look after the vineyard management and winemaking themselves and are committed to following sound ecological practises. A lightness of touch and genuine care flows through everything they do; from protecting the soils using only natural fertilisers, to the use of native yeasts and only the very tiniest amount of SO2 in the winery.

The estate was promoted to Grand Cru Classé status in 2022 in recognition of their consistently wel- made, polished wines and their commitment to biodiversity and the environment.
