Vertente is a wine that exudes both elegance and sophistication, effortlessly blending the bold flavours of Douro wines with the unique freshness of Niepoort wines.

In 2013, these defining qualities were heightened, showcasing a new style that focused on delicate extraction and a refined elegance that truly sets this Douro wine apart. The grapes used in Vertente are sourced from ancient vines over 60 years old, located on the eastern bank of the Douro River, as well as a select few vines around 30 years old in the Tedo River valley at Quinta de Nápoles.

The 2014 vintage had a lower yield than the previous year, but quality made up for it.

The harvest began in September with the goal of maintaining the wines' acidity, balance, and freshness. To avoid over-ripening, some vines were picked early. After an initial selection in the vineyard, another selection was made prior to production. The wine aged for 20 months in French oak barrels, where it underwent malolactic fermentation.

Tasting Note: This elegant wine boasts a lovely, medium-toned violet colour. The delicate aroma is still young, with refined notes of minerals and dark fruit. The subtle oak combines beautifully with hints of smoke and spice. On the palate, it is taut, deep, and well-structured. The fine, elegant tannins are balanced by a refreshing acidity, leading to a lingering finish. Year after year, Vertente strives for elegance over concentration, and this vintage is no exception.
