South American Wine Dinner
Discover Uruguay with these two beauties...
Whilst Chilean Merlot and Argentinian Malbec continue to satisfy many wine drinkers, for some there is the constant search for new and exciting wines from lesser known wine producing regions and countries.
Following on from our recent South American Dinner in the Overton Shop we are delighted to introduce producer Vinedo de los Vientos, giving us two wines to represent Uruguay.
Estival White, Vinedos de los Vientos 2015 £13.95
(Canelones, Uruguay)
(Canelones, Uruguay)
Estival is a 3 grape bend of Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer and Moscato. Deeply coloured, you’d expect the wine to be heavy and viscous but this is not the case at all. It is clean, medium weight with lovely tropical flavours and aromatics, tempered by fresh, green apple acidity. These three grapes can produce very overpowering flavours but here they are beautifully managed to create a very elegant wine. Perfect as an aperitif or with sweet and sour chicken.
Catarsis Red, Vinedos de los Vientos 2013 £13.95
(Canelones, Uruguay)
(Canelones, Uruguay)
A combination of Cabernet Sauvignon, Tannat and Barbera produce this lovely dense, inky red that screams ‘meat!’. The Cabernet offers blackcurrant fruit with a hint of green pepper. Tannat (Uraguay’s signature red grape) gives the wine extra structure and more dark fruit character whilst the Barbera contributes a smokey spiciness. The grippy tannins are just begging for a nice bit of beef or mature cheddar.
