2023 Domaine Cazes Le Canon du Marechal Rose (Magnum)

£35.00

Le Canon du Maréchal Rosé is the perfect balance of fresh strawberry and raspberry flavours, offering a lively acidity that makes every glass utterly moreish.

Crafted from Syrah and Mourvèdre vines once owned by Marshal Joffre himself, this biodynamic rosé captures the wintry cool of night-harvested grapes and the vibrant fruit of Roussillon’s clay-limestone terroir.

Winemaking: Grapes are picked by night, undergo an eight-hour skin contact at low temperature, then gently pressed and cold-fermented at 18 °C before early bottling.

Pairing Suggestions: This supple rosé partners beautifully with vegetarian Provençal tian or grilled sea bass, and also shines alongside charcuterie and Niçoise salad.

Tasting Note: It shows a pale raspberry hue with vibrant aromas of wild strawberry and cherry sweets, leading to a rounded palate with crisp acidity and a lingering fruit finish.

Origin: Roussillon, France

Maison Cazes

Few domaines in southern France balance scale with soul as seamlessly as Maison Cazes. Founded in the Belle Époque and revitalised by the dedication of André and Bernard Cazes in the mid-20th century, the estate now covers over 220 hectares, every vine farmed organically and biodynamically. Winemaker Lionel Lavail and his passionate team treat each vineyard block like a standalone microcosm, ensuring that roles of clay, limestone and schist shine through in every glass.

Cazes thrives on restless curiosity: they revived a forgotten vineyard at Anse de Paulilles, trialled low-temperature macerations for whites and rosés, and coaxed unctuous depth from clay-rich reds without overpowering fruit. Their commitment to gentle extraction and oxidative nuance has earned them more than 400 awards since 1960. Here, cutting-edge techniques serve tradition, and every bottle is a testament to Roussillon’s untamed character.
