2004 Niepoort Colheita (Half)

£28.00

Colheita Ports are Tawnies which come from a single vintage and are aged in 550 L old barrels for a minimum period of 7 years prior to bottling. This wine is a delicious way to end off a meal and also matches very well with desserts, dried fruit or as an aperitif served with foie gras.

The grapes of the 2004 Colheita stem from low-yielding vineyards in the Cima Corgo region of the Douro Valley. The fruit was foot-stomped in lagares in our Vale de Mendiz cellar. Ageing took place in 550L pipa barrels at Vila Nova de Gaia. At Niepoort, we bottle our Colheita Ports after a minimum maturation period of 10 years, but the 2004 vintage was aged for even longer thanks to the excellent quality of the wine and its ageing potential. The first bottling took place in March 2018.

Tasting Note: The wine displays a beautiful, brilliant chestnut colour with russet hints. Its incredibly intense and rich aromas feature dried fruit, candied fruit and caramel. The palate offers a smooth and fresh mouthfeel, carried by a beautiful acidity and distinct notes of dried fruit, culminating in a very long, elegant and velvety finish.

Origin: Douro Valley, Portugal

Blend: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Francisca, Tinta Amarela, Sousão, Tinta Roriz

Niepoort

Experience the independent family business, passed successfully for five generations from one Niepoort to the next, with older and younger generations working side by side for a long period. We eagerly anticipate the sixth generation, ready for a future of close collaboration.

Dirk Niepoort, part of the fifth generation, leads the family business, following the retirement of his father, Eduard Rudolph Niepoort. Since his studies in Switzerland, Dirk has been passionate about wine and has brought innovation to the traditional Niepoort brand.

Niepoort strives to maintain its status as a "niche player" by crafting unique ports and Douro wines that blend centuries-old customs with modernity. This combination also encompasses wine from two other regions, the Bairrada and Dão, which have contributed to shaping the Douro - Bairrada - Dão triangle. The newest points in this triangle also "deliver the goods" and hold a significant place for Niepoort, as they possess immense potential by combining the rich heritage of Portugal's winemaking history with the potential for innovation.
