2021 Monte Bernardi Retromarcia Chianti Classico

£25.00

Retromarcia is a Chianti Classico made from 100% Sangiovese grapes. The grapes come from vineyards consisting of shale (Galestro) 70%, sandstone (Arenaria-Calcare-Pietraforte) 20%, limestone (Alberese) 10%.

The vinification and maturation is reminiscent of a more traditional style Chianti Classico; the result is a fresh and fruity, medium-bodied, well-balanced wine, with a nice structure, juicy acidity and a long finish.

Tasting Note: Luxurious mountain herbs, coupled with cranberry, wild cherry, and red plums, are complemented by notes of anise, spice, and orange peel. This wine is fresh and fruity. with a medium-bodied profile and a well-balanced structure. The juicy acidity, elegance, and long, savoury, finish are a delight.

Monte Bernardi

Monte Bernardi is situated in Panzano in Chianti, a small village in the heart of the Chianti Classico, Tuscany’s original winemaking region.

Producing wines with the greatest expression of the local terroir, ultimate quality, and a harmony between our land and the environment.

Their vineyards are acknowledged as one of the "grand cru" regions of Chianti Classico. Thanks to the abundance of rocky soils, including the three ideal components: classic shale (galestro), highly calcareous sandstone (pietraforte), and limestone (alberese).

These famous soils combined with high altitudes, optimal exposures, significant day and night temperature fluctuations, and proximity to the river Pesa, contribute to the farm’s unique microclimates.

Monte Bernardi has the highest percentage of old vines of any commercially producing estate in Chianti Classico, including six hectares over 55 years old, and one extraordinary hectare planted in 1933, all thriving under the care of the vineyard team.
