2021 Marco Abella Clos Abella

£52.00

The 2021 Marco Abella Clos Abella is a stunning showcase of Priorat's ancient terroir and winemaking artistry. As the flagship of Marco Abella, it represents the heart and soul of this exceptional winery, delivering a wine that is both elegant and profoundly expressive.

With a commitment to low-yield farming and a profound respect for nature, Marco Abella captures the rugged beauty of Priorat in every bottle.

The Clos Abella is crafted from 70% Carignan and 30% Grenache, sourced from the estate's iconic El Perer vineyard, perched at 450–550 metres. Grapes are micro-vinified in small lots before fermentation and ageing in French oak barrels. This meticulous process, combined with the vineyard's north-facing aspect and mineral-rich slate soils, creates a wine of remarkable depth, complexity, and longevity.

Pairing Suggestions: Pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, wild game, tuna tataki, hearty stews, or dark chocolate desserts.

Tasting Note: Intense aromas of blackberries, cocoa, and orange peel, with hints of anise and balsamic. The palate is velvety, with fine tannins and a fresh, mineral-driven finish.

Marco Abella

Situated in Priorat, Spain, Marco Abella's vines are biodynamically grown on terraces at an altitude of between 200 and 1500m.

By all accounts vines have no right to grow here.

Poor soil is characterised by the presence of slate known as “licorella”, which means the vines must fight tooth and nail to survive.

Producing opulent, hand-harvested, fruit with high emphasis on grape selection, is the norm here.
