2022 Maison Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune Blanc
Founded in 1880, Joseph Drouhin has become one of Burgundy’s most esteemed wine houses. With a dedication to finesse, purity, and the authentic expression of terroir, the estate is now managed by the founder’s great-grandchildren. Philippe oversees the vineyards, Véronique leads winemaking, and Frédéric ensures overall quality, maintaining the family’s legacy of excellence.
The 2022 Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune Blanc is a refined white Burgundy that captures the elegance and minerality of the Côte de Beaune. Made from carefully selected Chardonnay grapes from parcels above the city of Beaune, including declassified young vines from the famed Clos des Mouches, this wine exemplifies finesse, balance, and aromatic richness. The wine’s light limestone soils lend it remarkable finesse, while hand-harvested grapes and meticulous sorting ensure only the finest fruit is used. Its 4–6 year optimal drinking window, with ageing potential up to 8 years, ensures versatility for both immediate enjoyment and cellaring.
Winemaking:
Grapes are harvested by hand in open crates, carefully sorted to select only the best fruit. Slow pressing in a pneumatic press separates the juice from the last press. Fermentation, malolactic conversion, and ageing are conducted in French oak barrels for 12–14 months, with around 10–15% new oak, allowing the wine to develop both richness and elegance. Every stage is guided by tastings and technical analysis, with priority given to expressing the character of the terroir and vintage.
Pairing Suggestions:
This elegant Côte de Beaune Blanc pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes. For vegetarians, try it with creamy risottos, roasted root vegetables, or a mushroom tart. Non-vegetarian options include fine sauced white meats, pan-seared fish, or shellfish, where the wine’s brightness and texture complement the subtle flavours.
Tasting Note:
The 2022 Côte de Beaune Blanc shows a pale gold hue with a luminous clarity. Aromas of honey, almond, and lemongrass lead to a palate that develops into notes of grilled hazelnut and almonds. The wine is tender and fleshy with a strong texture, exhibiting roundness and a rich, lingering finish that highlights its mineral backbone and harmonious balance.
