2016 Domaine Faiveley Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru

£225.00

The 2016 Domaine Faiveley Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is a standout white wine, and one of the estate's most iconic offerings. With a proud heritage dating back to 1874, this prestigious 0.86-hectare plot sits right next to Faiveley’s Corton Clos des Cortons Grand Cru Monopole. It’s made from a fascinating mix of four distinct parcels located in the renowned terroirs of Le Corton and Le Rognet et Corton.

The diversity of the vineyard’s soil is key to the wine's character. The lower slopes offer rich clay, while the higher plots are defined by grey marl. This combination, along with the variation in altitude between 305m and 360m, adds layers of complexity to the wine. Expect deep, mineral-driven flavours, with subtle nuances that reflect its unique growing conditions. With vines dating back to the 1930s and newer plantings from the late 20th century, this Grand Cru is a true expression of Burgundy’s finest terroir and winemaking tradition.

Tasting Note: Subtle aromas of fruit and flowers awaken the senses. This Grand Cru seduces with its intense minerality, depth and considerable aromatic persistence. The years of cellaring have enhanced the wine's complexity adding layers of subtle smoke, honey, and almond.

Origin: Burgundy, France

Blend: Chardonnay

Domaine Faiveley

Domaine Faiveley is a family adventure that has thrived for nearly two centuries, blending tradition with innovation in the heart of Burgundy. Since 1825, the Faiveley family has been driven by an entrepreneurial spirit, continuously reimagining what’s possible in the world of wine. Each generation, while deeply rooted in Burgundy’s terroirs, has also explored other paths (cobblers, doctors, lawyers, and engineers) bringing fresh ideas and perspectives to their winemaking legacy.

Pioneers at heart, the Faiveleys have never shied away from innovation. They were the first to introduce the manual sorting table and even invented the pantograph. Their foresight extended to the Côte Chalonnaise, where they invested in vineyards when few recognised the region’s potential. Most recently, their adventurous spirit led them to explore the Pinot Noir of California, proving once again that they aren’t afraid to venture beyond the familiar.

The family’s philosophy is simple: to push the boundaries of knowledge and creativity, while staying true to their heritage. In fact, it was Georges Faiveley, a lover of both wine and literature, who co-founded the Chevaliers du Tastevin Brotherhood during the wine crisis of the 1930s, believing that if no one would buy their wines, they should invite friends to share them instead.
