MV Sugrue ZODO
Selected by Hugh Johnson’s as one of his ten desert island wines, and described by Neal Martin as “just a killer English sparkling wine”.
ZODO is a brave zero dosage expression of English Sparkling Wine, first released by Dermot after the 2014 vintage. It is best described as a geological journey in pursuit of perhaps the most elusive of winemaking goals: to reveal minerality in reality, not just metaphor.
Aged for longer on lees than our other cuvees, in order to build mouthfeel and texture, it is a blend of 60% Chardonnay and 40% Pinot Noir aged in old oak barrels and stainless steel. It is an incredibly versatile wine, owing to its dry nature, and a perfect partner for a whole range of dishes. Very rare, and very limited production.
Tasting Note: Almost 100% Mount Harry Vineyard, a pure chalk site in East Sussex, it is astonishingly generous and open. Granny Smith apples and crushed stone aromas lead to a beautifully balanced palate with vibrant acidity, fine weight and a twist of lemon on the finish. It’s like an outsider brought in from the cold that greets you with a surprisingly warm and tantalising embrace.
Origin: South Downs, England
Blend: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir
