2023 Château de Bonnezeaux Chenin La Montagne

£65.00

Château de Bonnezeaux is a historic Loire Valley estate in France’s Anjou-Saumur region that has revived old vineyard sites once famed for sweet wines and now focuses on dry, terroir-driven Chenin Blanc. Biodynamic and organic practices guide the vineyard work, with hand-harvested fruit from older vines expressing the character that schist and quartz-rich soils impart.

Made from 100 % Chenin Blanc, the grapes are hand-picked and undergo spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged in French oak barrels (often around 12 months) to add texture and complexity while retaining freshness and varietal purity. Light filtration at bottling preserves expressive aromatics and vibrant acidity.

Tasting notes: Pale golden with floral lift, this 2023 Chenin Blanc shows bright notes of white flowers, ripe orchard fruit, honey, and citrus zest. The palate is balanced with vivid acidity, a mineral spine and subtle oak complexity from barrel ageing, finishing long with elegant texture and saline persistence.

Origin: Loire Valley, France

Blend: Chenin Blanc

Château de Bonnezeaux

Château de Bonnezeaux’s history goes back to the early 19th Century, however it has not made a bottle for over 3 decades until Louis-Edgard de Pinieux inherited the Estate from his wife. The Domaine had been abandoned for a generation, the vines unmanaged and the buildings in ruins. They managed to save 2 parcels of old vines, La Montagne and la Vieille Vignes. In 2019, Pierre Boisseau and oenologue Florian Zuliani joined the Domaine. They purchased a further 3 hectares to make 9 hectares in total.
