2022 Sandridge Barton Bacchus

£26.00

Sandridge Barton Bacchus 2022 is a remarkable expression from the acclaimed Sandridge Barton range, showcasing a broader and richer profile of this unique grape.

Produced at the state-of-the-art winery in South Devon, Sandridge Barton is renowned for blending modern techniques with time-honoured traditions. The estate’s commitment to sustainable practices and minimal intervention ensures that each wine truly reflects the character of the Dart Valley, capturing its distinctive climate in every bottle.

This wine is crafted from whole-bunch pressed Bacchus, which undergoes spontaneous fermentation in a combination of stainless steel and third-fill French oak barrels. After eight months of maturation in old French oak, the wine is left unfiltered and further developed during an additional ten months in bottle prior to release.

The Bacchus 2022 stands out with an alive, textural palate bursting with vibrant lemon pith, cantaloupe melon and kiwi flavours, all lifted by a classic lime-like acidity and a subtle touch of oak tannin. This complex yet approachable wine offers a fresh perspective on the UK's fourth most planted grape variety, making it a compelling choice for enthusiasts seeking something truly special.

Pairing Suggestions: Excellent with fresh seafood, crisp salads, zesty vegetarian risotto, or delicate white meats.

Sandridge Barton

Sandridge Barton is a true English gem with a storied history as one of the pioneers of the country’s wine industry. With roots tracing back over 40 years under the banner of Sharpham Wine, the producer has consistently championed quality, innovation, and a deep respect for the Dart Valley’s unique climate.

Beginning in the 1980s when Maurice and Ruth Ash first planted trial vines on the sun-drenched slopes of Sharpham Estate, the vision was to create a French-style wine and cheese experience unlike any other in England. Their early experiments led to the discovery of the promising Madeleine Angevine, establishing a vineyard that would soon make waves in the burgeoning English wine scene. Over the decades, the team – featuring figures such as Duncan Schwab, Mark Sharman, Ian A’court, and Peter Sudworth – has nurtured a reputation built on tradition, sustainability, and the pioneering spirit of South Devon winemaking.

When Sandridge Barton approached Sharpham in the mid-2000s, it marked a new chapter. The move across the River Dart to a state-of-the-art facility near Stoke Gabriel symbolised both innovation and respect for heritage. Today, the estate spans 450 acres of breathtaking vineyard, where a mix of traditional and modern techniques come together to express the natural beauty of the Dart Valley.

This producer is celebrated not only for its award-winning wines but also for its commitment to sustainable practices, minimal intervention in the winemaking process, and a philosophy that honours the land and its heritage. The legacy of Sharpham Wine continues at Sandridge Barton, making it a uniquely inspiring producer in the English wine industry.
