2017 Domaine Bott-Geyl Gewurztraminer Sonnenglanz Grand Cru

£48.00

The Grand Cru of Sonnenglanz covers an area of 33 hectares at an altitude of approximately 220 to 270 meters. The soil is composed of conglomerates of limestone pebbles and Oligocene marl. Its south-east exposure and a particularly dry microclimate (between 500 and 550 mm of rainfall per year) are highly conducive to Gewurztraminer which is complex and intense with delicate notes of grapefruit, pineapple, and flowers.

Tasting Note:  The nose is a heady, complex affair — rose petals and hibiscus entwine with the bergamot elegance of Earl Grey, before giving way to sun-warmed apricot, candied orange zest, a splash of orange liqueur, and the soft almond richness of marzipan. On the palate, this wine walks a beautifully poised line between sweetness and vivid acidity — Riesling-like in its precision and backbone, yet unmistakably Gewürztraminer in its exotic, perfumed character. Multi-layered and graceful, it lingers long after the last sip.

Origin: Alsace, France

Blend: Gewurztraminer

Domaine Bott-Geyl

Jean-Christophe Bott is the current heir to a family tradition dating back to 1795, when his ancestor, Jean-Martin Geyl, tended to his vines and crafted his wine. Since 1993, Jean-Christophe Bott has taken the reins of Domaine Bott-Geyl with a commitment to organic farming in 2000 and biodynamic methods in 2002. In the vineyards, he focuses on low yields, while in the cellars he oversees natural and minimalist vinification. His approach balances tradition and modernity, preserving the land for future generations and protecting its delicate ecological balance.

Experience the luxury of 15 hectares of pristine vines, where 6 Grands Crus and 4 Lieux-dits are meticulously tended to.
