2023 Maison Sichel Selection Saint-Estephe
Often overlooked in favour of some of the other communes, Saint-Estephe's proximity to the widening estuary and its maritime influence gives a restrained yet powerful wine. The gravel soils of Margaux and Paulliac give way to clay by the time the river reaches Saint-Estephe which mean the grapes can withstand hotter summers while not losing their acidity. What they may lack in perfume they make up with in flavour.
Tasting notes: A wide aromatic palette with notes of ripe plum and blackcurrant, vanilla and tobacco. A beautiful roundness on the palate. The touch of Petit Verdot brings a touch of floral freshness. A wine typical of the appellation, combining elegance and finesse.
