2020 Holden Manz Big G

£36.00

This 2020 Big G is a bold and opulent Bordeaux-style blend from Holden Manz, boasting dark fruit intensity, savoury complexity and a seamless, long finish that's perfect for people seeking the premium Franschhoek reds.

Grapes from designated Big G blocks were hand-picked, co-fermented in open-top fermenters with indigenous yeasts, then matured for 24 months in 225 l French oak (30% new).

Big G stands out for its rigorous block selection and solera-style blending across vintages, delivering power, balance and layering that reward cellaring for up to 10 years.

Pairing Suggestions: Beef Wellington, lamb leg with rosemary and garlic or a rich daube de boeuf.

Tasting Note: Dark ruby with garnet edge with layers of cassis, blackberry, graphite, mulberry and plum framed by cedar and pencil shavings. The palate is creamy cassis and mulberry with integrated tannins and a long, tension-filled finish.

Origin: Franschhoek Valley, South Africa

Alcohol: 15.0%

Blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot

Holden Manz

Holden Manz Wine Estate sits at the southern tip of the Franschhoek Valley, cradled between the Franschhoek River and Stony Brook at 300 m above sea level. Founded in 2010 by Gerard Holden and Migo Manz, this 22ha estate planted on three distinct soil types that mirror the valley’s dramatic, mountainous setting. Winters here are long, cold and wet, giving vines a well-earned rest, while summer’s heat and autumn’s gentle breezes allow grapes to ripen slowly, concentrating flavour and structure in each berry.

Winemaker Thierry Haberer, Bordeaux-trained and Michel Rolland-mentored, brings a global pedigree to this terroir. Thierry’s cellar is designed for intimacy and precision: small-batch fermenters, open-plan barrels for hands-on élevage, and a streamlined flow from harvest to bottle minimise handling to preserve each parcel’s personality. Committed to sustainability, Holden Manz has also embraced solar power with 65 kW of panels now offset much of the estate’s energy needs, ensuring that every bottle reflects both the land’s natural bounty and the estate’s environmental stewardship.
