2020 Mendel Unus Bordeaux Blend

The 2020 Mendel Unus is a masterful Bordeaux-style blend, combining the structural elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness and complexity of Malbec. This wine showcases the harmony between intensity, volume, and refinement, making it a standout for collectors and connoisseurs alike.

Featuring 65% Malbec, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Petit Verdot, the Unus blend offers a full-bodied, mouth-filling experience. The Cabernet Sauvignon provides firm, ripe tannins and structural backbone, while the Malbec contributes unctuous fruit, depth, and complexity. Petit Verdot enhances the body and adds subtle licorice notes. Hand-harvested and meticulously blended, this wine is both elegant and approachable, promising remarkable aging potential.

Winemaking:

After hand selection of berries, fermentation occurs in small 50-hectolitre tanks with manual pigeage for 25 days. Pneumatic pressing at low pressure preserves delicate flavours, followed by malolactic fermentation in barriques. The wine is aged for 16 months in French oak before blending, bottling, and further maturation for 12 months.

Pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, roasted vegetables, or a mushroom risotto, highlighting the wine’s elegance and depth.

Tasting Note:

Deep ruby-red with purple edges, offering black cherry, plum, cassis, spice, vanilla, and cedar, culminating in a long, harmonious finish.
