2013 Château Batailley Pauillac
Château Batailley is one of the oldest estates in Bordeaux, dating from the 15th century. A 5ème Cru Classé, it is known for producing wines of consistently high quality and excellent value in a classic Pauillac style.
The 'Batailley' name comes from the Hundred Years War site of conflict in the south of Pauillac, upon which the vineyard is located.
57 hectares of vineyard, with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot, are planted in the optimal soil composition for the deep gravel beds and clay-limestone subsoil of Pauillac.
Grapes are hand-picked in parcels averaging one hectare, followed by complete destemming before fermentation in stainless steel tanks. A partial malolactic fermentation occurs in both tanks and barrels and the resulting wine is aged in 225-litre barriques, of which 55% are new, for a period of 16-18 months before bottling.
Tasting Note: The nose is nicely spiced with an elegant bouquet. The palate is fresh and rounded with notes of liquorice and leather, cassis, and vanilla.
Origin: Bordeaux, France
Blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot
