2022 Waterkloof Seriously Cool Cinsault

£15.95

This playful yet serious Cinsault is crafted from 30-year-old bush vines on Stellenbosch’s cooler slopes. It’s a tribute to South Africa’s rich winemaking heritage, bursting with character and finesse.

Hand-harvested grapes undergo spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts. Whole bunches are foot-stomped and aged in older French oak barrels, preserving the wine’s vibrant aromatics and silky texture. Minimal intervention ensures pure expression of the terroir.

Pairing Suggestions: Perfect with roast duck, pork belly, or a wild mushroom risotto. Also delightful alongside charcuterie or a summer vegetable tart.

Tasting Note: Bright red berry aromas with floral and earthy undertones. Juicy cherry and cranberry on the palate, balanced by soft tannins and a fresh, lingering finish.

Origin: Stellenbosch, South Africa

Alcohol: 13.0%

Waterkloof Wines

Perched atop the Schapenberg, overlooking False Bay, Waterkloof Wines embodies the harmony between nature and craftsmanship. This biodynamic gem was founded by Paul Boutinot, whose quest for a vineyard with true terroir led him to this amphitheatre of vines in Stellenbosch. With sea breezes and diverse soils, Waterkloof embraces regenerative farming, preserving the region’s indigenous fynbos while creating wines of striking authenticity.

The team at Waterkloof, led by Paul, cellar master Werner Engelbrecht, and farm manager Christiaan Loots, champions minimal intervention and Old World sensibilities. Their vines, rooted in sandstone and granite-rich soils, are tended with care and harvested by hand. From their gravity-fed cellar to their innovative carbon-sequestration methods, every element reflects their commitment to sustainability and excellence.
