2009 Chateau Maucoil Chateauneuf-du-Pape Tradition Rouge (Magnum)

£110.00

A wine steeped in the tradition of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Château Maucoil's 2009 Tradition Rouge is an alluring expression of sandy soils and time-honoured craftsmanship.

This wine showcases the elegance of sandy soils, with Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsault selected from vines averaging 40 years old. Grapes are harvested by hand, meticulously sorted, and vinified in concrete tanks to highlight each variety’s unique character. After 30 days of fermentation—featuring pump-overs, rack-and-return, and gentle punching down—the wine matures in a mix of tanks and 2–3-year-old barrels, allowing complexity and harmony to develop. The final blend is a masterpiece of balance, depth, and elegance.

Tasting Note: Bursting with black fruit, warm spices, and velvety elegance, this wine offers a seamless balance of power and finesse. The deep ruby hue and rich aromatics make it a captivating choice, whether paired with hearty beef casserole, mushroom risotto, or enjoyed on its own as a moment of indulgence. With the potential to age gracefully for up to a decade, it’s a bottle for both the now and the future.

Château Maucoil

Château Maucoil’s story spans more than 400 years, beginning in Roman times when Caesar’s legions first recognised the potential of its prime location in the northwest of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. Over centuries, the estate passed through the hands of illustrious families, including Joseph de La Pise, a Lord of Maucoil and archivist for the Dutch royal family, who solidified its reputation as a place where wine and history intertwine.

Today, Château Maucoil is a beacon of heritage and innovation, cultivating its 45 hectares of Châteauneuf-du-Pape vineyards organically since 2011. Committed to preserving the character of its exceptional terroir, the estate favours traditional practices like ploughing and furrowing, ensuring every bottle reflects the land’s rich legacy and natural vibrancy.
