2011 Marques de Murrieta Castillo Ygay
The history of Marqués de Murrieta is closely linked to the evolution of Rioja wine itself. Its founder introduced winemaking methods from Bordeaux to Spain, shaping the region’s future. In 1852, he produced his first wine in Logroño, later relocating to the Ygay Estate in the late 1870s. Situated in the heart of La Rioja, the estate is centred around Ygay Castle, which serves as the winery’s headquarters and is encircled by 300 hectares of vineyards.
Since acquiring Marqués de Murrieta in 1983, the Cebrián-Sagarriga family has upheld a clear winemaking philosophy rooted in the pursuit of quality and excellence, combining respect for tradition with a commitment to innovation.
Castillo Ygay is crafted only in the finest vintages from the 741-acre Ygay Estate. This Gran Reserva Especial is produced from Tempranillo and Mazuelo grown at 485 metres above sea level. Made in limited quantities and highly sought after worldwide, it stands as the flagship expression of the Castillo Ygay label.
