2016 Yarra Yering Carrodus Shiraz

£160.00

Planted in 1969, the unirrigated vines at our Yarra Valley vineyard produce elegant, complex and powerful wines. Approachable as young wines, they have the ability to develop in the bottle for many years. Yarra Yering is one of Australia’s most iconic wineries with an outstanding international reputation.

Winemaking: Hand harvested small section of the Shiraz vineyard for this wine, destemmed into a 600kg fermenter for fermentation, hand plunging and basket pressed to two new tight grained French oak barrels for 20 months maturation. Bottled via gravity without filtration.

Awards: 98 Points: James Halliday, Wine Companion | 97 Points: Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine

Tasting Note: Pretty violet perfume, ripe plum fruit and pepper spice. The palate has amazing density of fruit and weight with pepper spices. A framework of chary oak tannins in balance with the fruit surround the intense plum fruit and liquorice spiced flavour and layered texture. Drinking beautifully at present and will evolve for a further 20 years under suitable cellaring conditions.

Origin: Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia

Yarra Yering

Yarra Yering, an icon from Victoria, Australia, has been built on the basis of giving individual vineyard blocks, and grape varietals, the time and
attention they deserve. This effort ensures that Yarra Yering continue to make high-quality wines and maintain their enviable reputation.

Although wine was an important industry in the Yarra Valley throughout
the 1800s, by the 1920s it had largely halted as farmers moved onto other crops. It took the vision of the legendary Dr Bailey Carrodus, to help re-establish the Yarra Valley as one of Australia’s pre-eminent wine regions.

After several years of careful research, he settled on the Yarra Valley as the ideal site and in 1969 he purchased land at the foot of the Warramate Hills. He named his vineyard Yarra Yering and in 1973 produced the first vintages of his now iconic Dry Red Wine No. 1 and Dry Red Wine No. 2.
