2024 Bodegas Virgen de Lorea OTX

£16.95

From Bodegas Virgen de Lorea in Bizkaiko Txakolina, in Spain’s Basque Country. A historic family winery rooted in traditional txakoli production, it balances heritage with thoughtful modern practices, producing expressive, high-quality wines that reflect the Atlantic-influenced terroir.

Made from 100% Hondarrabi Zuri, known for its vibrant acidity and fresh, lively character, with an addition of one month of lees aging for texture, this really is the quintessential Basque coastal white.

Tasting Note: Zesty and refreshing with lively acidity, it shows bright citrus peel and green apple aromas, a whisper of salinity and herbal lift. The palate is crisp with a gentle spritz, tangy fruit and clean mineral drive, finishing dry and invigorating.

Origin: Galicia, Spain

Blend: Hondarrabi Zuri

Bodegas Virgen de Loreal

Bodegas Virgen de Lorea is a family-run estate in Zalla, at the heart of Bizkaiko Txakolina. The winery has deep roots in the region, dating back to the 19th century, when the Laiseka and Goikoetxea families began producing wine and cider on the southern slopes of the Otxaran–Zalla mountains. After a break in commercial production, the family replanted the vineyards in the 1980s and built a new winery in the 1990s – a quiet but confident return to their winemaking heritage. Today the estate farms around 22 hectares of vines, mostly Hondarribi Zuri.
