Step back in time with Yellow Chartreuse, a liqueur born in 1840 and inspired by the legendary Elixir Végétal recipe. This yellow gem was so beloved that Father Garnier, the attorney and overseer of liqueurs at the time, officially named it Chartreuse Jaune in 1852, securing the “Chartreuse” trademark. With an alcohol content of 43%, it continues to be produced by the devoted Chartreux Fathers.

Yellow Chartreuse is a masterful blend of alcohol, sugar, water, and an array of 130 plant substances, including bark, roots, spices, and flowers. Its distinct character is derived from a meticulous production process that differs from its Green counterpart. The journey begins with the monks at the Grande Chartreuse monastery, who grind the plants. This is followed by distillation to capture the aroma, and various maceration techniques that extract the active ingredients and impart the liquor’s natural colour. The liqueur then ages gracefully in oak casks, developing its complexity over time.
