2024 False Bay Slow Chenin Blanc

£10.50

This 2024 False Bay Slow Chenin Blanc is a textured, wild?ferment white that captures the essence of old?vine fruit and slow, lees?aged evolution, delivering harmonious depth and vibrant freshness.

Grapes are hand?harvested, spontaneously fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks and then matured on fine lees for a minimum of ten months. No additives (aside from a small sulphur dose) or commercial yeasts are used, allowing the wine’s natural texture and nuance to develop slowly and authentically.

Unlike many Chenins made for speed and scent, this “slow” Chenin embodies patience: lees ageing enhances texture, wild ferments unveil complex herb and bready notes, and old?vine acidity keeps the palate taut. It’s an uncommon combination of rustic charm and intricate detail at an unbeatable value.

Pairing Suggestions: Grilled lobster tails, creamy seafood risotto, herb?roasted chicken or spiced vegetable tagine.

Tasting Note: Ripe citrus and green plum on the nose with fennel and aniseed hints; the palate is creamy lemon with zesty tension and a long, textured finish from extended lees contact.

Origin: Coastal Region, South Africa

False Bay Vineyards

False Bay Vineyards sprang to life from Paul Boutinot’s quest in 1994 to rescue grapes from old, balanced coastal vineyards that were destined for anonymous co?operative blends. Long before “natural wine” became a buzzword, the estate bottled these gems with minimal intervention: wild?yeast fermentations, no acid additions, and a steadfast focus on purity.

Today, False Bay Vineyards remains proudly independent, crafting sustainably certified, vegan?friendly wines that deliver “real wine” at truly accessible prices.

Based in South Africa’s Coastal Region, every vineyard in the False Bay range is chosen for its natural harmony with mature, and often gnarly, vines that yield low volumes of intensely flavoured fruit. As a WWF Biodiversity Champion and WIETA?certified member of the IPW system, False Bay’s winemaking team, led by Nadia Langenegger, ensures that each bottle reflects both the wild beauty of the bay and the rigorous sustainability standards that define the estate.
