2020 Gaja Ca'Marcanda Magari
We welcome one of the fabled Gaja wines back to Caviste.
Ca'Marcanda, which translates to 'house of endless negotiations', is situated near Bolgheri. The name is derived from the extended negotiations that occurred before its 1996 purchase (requiring 18 visits!). Now, it is the ideal location for the 5th generation of the Gaja family to remain innovative.
Bolgheri, close to the coast, boasts a unique dual soil with terre blanche (white earth) featuring limestone, clay, and stones, and terre brune (dark earth) enriched with lime and clay. Magari is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot grown in both the dark and white soils.
Tasting Note: Deep garnet red with vinous purple hues. The Cabernet varieties demonstrate their power with hints of dark small fruit like black currant, marasca cherry and blackberry. A complex character that remains refined. On the nose, it is fragrant and transitions into hints of Mediterranean shrubs and black tea. The palate is full-bodied and boasts supple, smooth tannins. This vintage produces a memorable and highly flavourful finish.
