2021 Argiano Solengo

£64.00

A Superb Blend from the Heart of Tuscany

This combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Sangiovese to create a truly remarkable experience. The grapes flourish in marl and ancient clay soils rich in limestone, nestled at altitudes between 280 and 310 meters above sea level. These vineyards, aged between 15 and 22 years, are meticulously managed using the Spurred Cordon training system and organic farming practices, ensuring only the finest grapes are harvested.

The harvest, which takes place between late September and early October, is followed by a meticulous vinification process. Each grape variety is fermented separately, spending about 20 days on the skins. Natural malolactic fermentation occurs in cement tanks, adding to the wine's unique character. The Solengo then ages for 18 months in specially crafted French barriques, with a mix of 60% new and 40% second-use barrels, imparting a sophisticated depth of flavour.

Tasting Note: This wine presents notes of sour cherry jam and pepper leaves, with delightful hints of tobacco. On the palate, it boasts flavourful tannins, excellent persistence, and a powerful yet elegant structure.

Argiano

Argiano is a historic winery with roots dating back to 1580. The name 'Argiano' is believed to stem from ancient Roman times, referring to the god Janus, or possibly the nearby River Orcia. The estate's journey took a significant turn in the 16th century when the noble Pecci family from Sienna built the stunning Bell’Aria villa, a perfect example of a noble residence of that era.

The winemaking tradition at Argiano began alongside the construction of their cellar nearly four centuries ago. Over the centuries, the estate changed hands through various noble families, each leaving their mark. Notably, Lady Ersilia Caetani Lovatelli promoted Argiano's wines at major cultural gatherings, earning praise from the great poet Carducci.
