2017 Moorooduc McIntyre Shiraz

Current winemaker Kate McIntyre’s father, Richard, chose the 20 acre site for its sun-soaked north-facing aspect and cool maritime climate. Optimal conditions to show off the elegance and depth of Shiraz.
Wild yeast fermentation is followed by 100% French oak maturation (20 % new barrels) then 15 months in wood, it is unfined, unfiltered and simply unbelievable.
Tasting Note: This Shiraz is so far removed from the typical Aussie whopper. Dark fruit notes of ripe plum and blackcurrant vie with a herbaceous hit of cut rosemary and freshly stripped thyme. The finish is as spicy as cracked black pepper, cardamom and licorice root minced in a pestle and mortar. Firm, drying tannins linger long and this wine just cries out for a plate of slow cooked lamb with mint and cumin!
