2020 Hans Herzog Viognier
In 1994, Hans Herzog identified a piece of land a long way from home in Marlborough, one of the sunniest and driest climates in New Zealand.
The composition of the soils on the right bank of the Wairau River near Marlborough, featuring arid sand and gravel, reminded Hans of Bordeaux's Médoc region. As such, he took the decision to plant Cabernet, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc, amongst others. The microclimate created by the river, combined with the well-drained soils, make this location one of the warmest and most valuable sites in the region.
Tasting Note: Aromas of rich quince and apricot, sweet spice, and honeysuckle create a show-stopping sensation, while honey and exotic fruit linger with a tantalizing fresh acidity. The mouthfeel is sumptuous, and the finish is long and refined.
