2025 Lanzerac Mrs English Chardonnay

Elizabeth Katherina English bought the farm Schoongezicht in 1920 for £18 000, subsequently renamed the farm ‘Lanzerac’ and transformed it during her nine years of ownership into one of the most modern wineries in the Cape. This wine is a tribute to this formidable lady.

Sourced from a single vineyard in the Jonkershoek Valley, the Mrs English 2025 is a complex wine with an abundance of citrus flavours on the nose, a full palate and lingering aftertaste. Great care is taken during the blending process to ensure a wine with impeccable balance, character, poise and deliverance.

Whole bunches are gently crushed without destemming, then settled for 48 hours. The clarified must is racked into French oak barrels (40% new) inoculated with diverse yeast strains; one-third ferments naturally. After sulphuring, the wine matures for 12 months with weekly stirring to build weight and nuance.

Tasting Note: The 2024 Mrs. English opens with bright lemon zest and white peach aromas, followed by notes of toasted almond and vanilla. On the palate, lively acidity balances a rich core of ripe melon and brioche, finishing with a long, zesty after taste

Pairing Suggestions: Pair with smoked salmon blinis or creamy chicken tagliatelle for a classic match. Vegetarian options such as roasted cauliflower steaks with almond gremolata also complement its silky texture and citrus lift.
