1896 Massandra Golitzin Collection Lacrima Christi (Crimea, Republic of Ukraine)
Made from grapes harvested in 1896 from vineyards on the Crimea Peninsula, Ukraine.
A remarkable bottle - the only one that we know about - that originally was part of the Royal Cellar belonging to Tsar Nicholas II prior to the Revolution. Along with other bottles in royal collection at Massandra - this bottle then became part of Joseph Stalin's significant 'private' cellar (the Soviet leader was partial to a good drop) - which was moved in its entirety to Georgia following the invasion of Nazi Germany.
After the war the collection was restored to its original home at Massandra.
Through chance, opportunity and good fortune it has fallen into our hands at Caviste. In perfect condition and in its own immaculate wooden box this wine should be compared to the sweetest Hungarian Tokaji (7% alcohol & 370g/litre sugar) - and we suspect will not only survive, but continue to develop, until at least the end of the 21st Century.
We have decided to donate this lone bottle to the British Red Cross Ukraine Appeal via an online auction. Should you wish to take part, please email email@example.com to join in.
All proceeds from the final winning bid will go to the essential work that is being done both within the country and for refugees who have fled the conflict.
Should you wish to simply donate (rather than bid for the bottle) please visit the Caviste page on Just Giving:
