1995 Château Merville Saint-Estephe
A rare treat at an incredible price!
Purchased from a private cellar - alongside a wonderful array of Burgundies dating back to 1984 - this bottle is something to appeal to the classical tastes and the more adventurous.
We've pulled the cork, gently, on a couple of bottles to taste with customers in our shop and the wine is a delight.
Kept in very good conditions, the labels have some damage (plus the odd cobweb), but that doesn't reflect the juice within.
Tasting Note: A really quite remarkable bottle, displaying a softness that can only come from this level of maturation. Those fresh and vibrant fruits of its youth have given way to a prune, fig, an earthiness, with an underlying black olive tapenade. The tannins are rounded, the acidity still present; it's an experience for the adventurous or those who wish to try a classic claret.
