2011 Esprit de l`Eglise

£42.00

Esprit de l’Eglise is the second wine of Clos L’Eglise, crafted with the same precision and intent as the Grand Vin but from the estate’s sandier soils. The 2011 vintage captures a classic, cooler Bordeaux season, producing a wine that is elegant, structured, and now beautifully mature. With over a decade in bottle, this is a superb choice for anyone seeking the finesse of Pomerol without the grand cru price tag.

Pairing Suggestions: Perfect with roast lamb, duck breast with cherry jus, wild mushroom risotto or aubergine parmigiana.

Tasting Note: On the nose, ripe red cherry, dried rose petal, cedar and mocha. The palate is medium-bodied and smooth, showing layers of plum, spice, and graphite. Tannins are silky and integrated, with a savoury, elegant finish that persists beautifully.

Origin: Pomerol, Bordeaux, France

Clos L’Eglise

Clos L’Eglise is a Pomerol estate with centuries of history and a reputation founded on terroir and transformation. Tucked into the heart of the appellation’s famed plateau, it sits adjacent to icons like L’Eglise-Clinet and Le Gay. In 1997, Sylvaine Garcin-Cathiard acquired the property and began a dynamic revival with her daughter Hélène Garcin and son-in-law Patrice Levêque. Their hands-on philosophy, rooted in organic farming and traditional methods, has brought renewed clarity and elegance to the wines.

The vineyard’s 5.9 hectares span deep clay and gravel soils, planted with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Eight parcels radiate from the winery itself where there’s no enclosing wall, despite the name. Informed by decades of experience, the winemaking team, including consultants like Michel Rolland and Thomas Duclos, balances structure with finesse. Today, Clos L’Eglise produces wines of graceful intensity and quiet power, firmly positioning itself among Pomerol’s finest.
