2014 Chateau Meyney Saint-Estephe

£98.00

Crafted from meticulously hand-harvested grapes, the winemaking process begins with double sorting, first in the vineyard, then with advanced optical sorting at the winery. Each plot is vinified separately in tanks of varying sizes, followed by a 30-day maceration.

The wine is matured for 15 months in French oak barrels, 37% of which are new, adding layers of complexity while preserving the vibrant fruit character.

Tasting Note: The 2014 Château Meyney Saint-Estèphe is a deep, brooding beauty with a dark purple-red hue and enticing aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, and sweet spices. On the palate, it offers a symphony of bold dark fruits balanced by silky, structured tannins and a Pauillac-like hint of graphite. Its firm, grippy tannins suggest ageing potential, but there’s enough charm here to tempt you into an early sip. A classic Médoc that will evolve gracefully over the next decade.

Origin: Bordeaux, France

Blend: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot

Goes well with

For hearty dishes like slow-cooked lamb shanks, beef Wellington, or venison stew. Its robust tannins also pair wonderfully with hard cheeses like aged Comté or Gruyère. For a vegetarian option, try it with mushroom risotto or roasted aubergine.

Château Meyney

Steeped in history and nestled on the rolling slopes of Saint-Estèphe, Château Meyney is one of the Médoc’s oldest vineyards, with its roots tracing back to 1662 when it was part of a convent. Overlooking the Gironde estuary, the 51-hectare estate benefits from a unique combination of Garonne gravels, limestone, and a rare vein of blue clay—similar to that found at Pétrus—making it a prime terroir for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot.

Now under the ownership of CA Grands Crus since 2004, Château Meyney has undergone significant modernisation under Technical Director Anne Le Naour. With smaller vats for precise plot-by-plot vinification and a commitment to sustainable farming, the estate has elevated its wines to new heights, earning a reputation as a hidden gem of Saint-Estèphe.
