2015 Rusden Driftsand GSM
Wine like so many others things is driven by fashion. In the 1970s all the big producers pulled out old Grenache vines because they weren`t seen as a quality option and often planted Cabernet instead. A few decades later it is understood that old Grenache plants can produce wonderfully complex and dense wines so some old vine material has been grafted back. This is exactly what happened at Rusden and the result is this fantastically drinkable Grenache, bolstered by some fine ripe Shiraz and a splash of Mataro.
Gingerbread and spice on the nose, black cherry and raspberry fruit, a silky, elegant texture with the Shiraz and old oak providing structure.
