Jean Leon

It began with a dream that defied borders. Ceferino Carrión, a young man from Cantabria, reimagined himself as Jean Leon and carved out a life among Hollywood's elite. After founding LA’s famed La Scala restaurant in the 1950s - a haunt for film stars, artists and dreamers - his next ambition was to craft wines of the same calibre. In 1963, he planted Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay in the heart of Penedès at a time when the region’s tradition leaned heavily on native grapes. It was an audacious move, and one that changed the future of Spanish wine.

Today, Jean Leon’s legacy is stewarded by the Torres family, with Mireia Torres leading the charge. The winery was a pioneer of single-varietal expressions and now boasts Spain’s first recognised single-vineyard Cabernet. With 65 hectares under organic cultivation and a relentless focus on quality and innovation, the estate continues to produce wines that feel deeply personal yet universally compelling. Every bottle is a tribute not just to place, but to personality.
