The Gibbston Vineyard was the first in the valley to be planted in the true North-to-South direction, which maximises the amount of sunlight hours the vines receive. More sunlight contributes dramatically to the uniform ripening of fruit, a critical factor in Pinot Noir quality.

Vineyard soils consist primarily of schist-derived, windblown alluvial loess. With a topsoil layer between 0.5-1 meter deep, vines can efficiently access water and vital nutrition in the underlying gravels.

Gibbston, in Central Otago, is renowned for its long, slow, ripening season. This extra "hang time" enables the grapes to remain on the vine for long periods of time which is hugely beneficial to producing quality Pinot Noir in this cool region. The fruit is able to develop an almost unmatched level of increased complexity and finesse.

Tasting Note: The palate reveals a brilliant combination of cherry, blackberry and mulberry, with earthy undertones emerging from the cool, low-yielding vintage. This vintage's Gibbston-style velvet tannins and zingy acidity amplify the savoury characteristics, making this our most captivating Pinot to date, heightened by the vine age.
