The blend that Yarra Yering built its reputation on, this is classic claret in style and has been heavily praised by Jancis Robinson, who included it in her 1989 book of the world's top 40 wines. A classic Bordeaux blend being composed of mainly Cabernet Sauvignon with assistance from Merlot, Malbec and a sprinkling of Petit Verdot. Aged in 40% new French oak the wine the wine has all the balance and complexity of the finest Bordeaux wine with no apparent flavours from the wood. A stunning array of aromas - full of spice, pepper, dark berry fruit - that are matched by a similar spread of flavours on the palate. Much more delicate than you would expect it to be and more Bordeaux-esque than a classic Aussie Cabernet.

Yarra Yering

Yarra Yering, an icon from Victoria, Australia, has been built on the basis of giving individual vineyard blocks, and grape varietals, the time and
attention they deserve. This effort ensures that Yarra Yering continue to make high-quality wines and maintain their enviable reputation.

Although wine was an important industry in the Yarra Valley throughout
the 1800s, by the 1920s it had largely halted as farmers moved onto other crops. It took the vision of the legendary Dr Bailey Carrodus, to help re-establish the Yarra Valley as one of Australia’s pre-eminent wine regions.

After several years of careful research, he settled on the Yarra Valley as the ideal site and in 1969 he purchased land at the foot of the Warramate Hills. He named his vineyard Yarra Yering and in 1973 produced the first vintages of his now iconic Dry Red Wine No. 1 and Dry Red Wine No. 2.
