2018 Moorooduc McIntyre Shiraz

The 2018 vintage was generous both in quality and quantity.

Wonderful growing conditions is both a blessing and, strangely a curse. In these years, one of the most important aspects of vineyard management to achieve beautiful fruit is attaining the right level of vine balance: not too much, not too little. With too much fruit, the flavours can become a little dilute; quantity overtakes quality.

This wine is the perfect balance.

The Moorooduc Estate whole bunch project continues with this wine through 100% whole bunch and natural yeast fermentation. The whole bunch ferment adds both complexity and density to the wine. 15 months in 100% French oak (20% new). One racking prior to bottling without fining or filtration to keep as much character and flavour in the final product as possible.

Tasting Note: A dreamy Northern Rhone style of Syrah with dark currant, smoke and spice notes with pronounced but velvety tannins. Think old vine dense Crozes-Hermitage. Dark blackberry and black plum fruit and some savoury earthy notes, dark cocoa and liquorice strap on the finish. Firm, fine grained tannins and tangy acidity play nicely together with black fruit notes lasting long after the wine is gone.
