The By Farr chardonnay originates from the same terroir as the Sangreal Pinot Noir (a volcanic red soil atop limestone) that was planted in 1994. This unique limestone, which begins 20 to 30cm below the surface and spreads into the root zone of the vines, is not present on the surface as with other sites. Moreover, the slope is a particularly exposed north-facing one.
The clones employed for making this chardonnay are an amalgamation of Dijon clones and Penfolds 58.
