2019 Badia a Passignano Chianti Classico Gran Selezione

£45.00

The estate’s historical importance in the Chianti region is well documented in manuscripts
kept in the Florence State Archives that provide descriptions and details about the
Sangiovese vineyards and local crops over the centuries. Further proof of this came to light in 1983 when a thousand-year-old vitis vinifera plant was discovered on the land surrounding Badia a Passignano.

The wines are vinified at the Tignanello estate and then gently aged in the cellar beneath the badia (abbey). This abbey itself dates back to the 10th Century.

Badia a Passignano Gran Selezione is made exclusively with a selection of the best Sangiovese grapes harvested from the monastery’s historic vineyards.

Tasting Note: Intense notes of ripe red fruit stand out on the nose, cherry in alcohol and black cherry, combined with citrus sensations of blood orange and delicate floral hints of lavender; the complex bouquet is completed by sweet nuances of vanilla and pleasant spicy hints of cloves and leather. On the palate the entrance is enveloping, supported by vibrant and silky tannins that accompany a long, persistent and savory finish, with a pleasant aftertaste of bitter cocoa and citrus fruits.

Origin: Tuscany, Italy

Blend: Sangiovese

Marchesi Antinori

Antinori has become Tuscany’s - arguably Italy’s - pre-eminent wine producer, establishing an important presence in Piedmont, Umbria, Puglia and Lombardy.

The Antinori family has been producing wine in Tuscany for six centuries and exporting it for four – that’s 26 generations of uninterrupted family ownership, making them the 10th oldest company in the world still in the hands of the same family. They moved to Florence in the early 13th century, and remain central figures in the fabric of the city.

Marchese Piero Antinori sums up the company’s outlook thus: “Ancient roots play an important role in our philosophy, but they have never held back our spirit of innovation.”
