The Unique Character of Douro Valley's Terroir

The Vertente is a wine of exquisite elegance and intricacy, masterfully blending the fruit and concentration of Douro wines with the freshness of Niepoort wines. The grapes for Vertente come from old vines, some over 60 years old, located on the right bank of the Douro River and a small portion from vines around 30 years old planted in the Tedo River Valley at Quinta de Nápoles.

The 2016 Niepoort Vertente Tinto is crafted from a blend of indigenous Douro grape varieties, including Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and others. The grapes are sourced from high-altitude vineyards and undergo a gentle vinification process to preserve freshness and fruitiness.

Tasting Note: Striking ruby hues and enticing scents of red berries, floral accents, and subtle spice. The medium-bodied palate boasts delicate tannins and invigorating acidity, culminating in a revitalising finish. This masterpiece exudes luxurious notes of black pepper, red and wild fruits, such as plum and cherry, while the wood and smoky undertones add depth and complexity. The underlying mineral tones of wet stone add to the overall allure. On the palate, it is bold and refined, showcasing a robust structure.
