2020 Cont'Ugo Merlot

£40.00

Tenuta Guado al Tasso is located in the small and prestigious DOC of Bolgheri, on the coast of the Upper Maremma, about a hundred kilometers south-west of Florence. This denomination has a relatively young history (it was born in 1994) but boasts an international reputation as a new point of reference in the world wine scene.

Exclusively Merlot grapes to interpret the Bolgheri territory according to a new perspective. The vineyards, located at an altitude between 45 and 60 meters above sea level on silty-clayey soils of mainly alluvial origin, give the Cont'Ugo great depth and complexity while preserving the fragrance and exuberance of the fruit typical of Merlot.

Tasting Note: The nose is characterized by notes of small ripe red fruits and fresh balsamic hints of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate the velvety entry is supported by an excellent sapidity capable of accompanying the entire tasting, giving a long and persistent finish. The aftertaste offers pleasant fruity sensations.

Origin: Bolgheri, Italy

Blend: Merlot

Marchesi Antinori

Antinori has become Tuscany’s - arguably Italy’s - pre-eminent wine producer, establishing an important presence in Piedmont, Umbria, Puglia and Lombardy.

The Antinori family has been producing wine in Tuscany for six centuries and exporting it for four – that’s 26 generations of uninterrupted family ownership, making them the 10th oldest company in the world still in the hands of the same family. They moved to Florence in the early 13th century, and remain central figures in the fabric of the city.

Marchese Piero Antinori sums up the company’s outlook thus: “Ancient roots play an important role in our philosophy, but they have never held back our spirit of innovation.”
