2021 Boekenhoutskloof Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon

£42.00

Handcrafted from meticulously chosen vineyards in the renowned Helderberg and Vlottenburg regions. These exceptional terroirs boast deep granite soils with hints of Table Mountain sandstone and "koffieklip", creating a wine with a distinctive minerality and refined graphite notes.

This vintage benefitted from a slow ripening to produce concentrated berries, with an outstanding colour and flavour development.

Grapes are hand-harvested, with each parcel individually vinified and macerated, with malolactic fermentation in 225-litre barriques. Aged for 22 months in 60% new light toast, long seasoned, French oak.

"Gottfried Mocke sources this Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon from two growers - one on the Helderberg, the other in Stellenbosch Kloof - to produce what is always the denser than its companion Franschhoek bottling. Inky and grippy, with top notes of menthol, mocha and dried herbs, lots of energy and vibrancy and a core of plum, blueberry and cassis. 2025-35" - 95 Points, Tim Atkin MW

"Pretty nose of blackcurrants, sage, blackberry leaves and nutmeg. Firm and well-framed, with a full body and solid tannin structure. Excellent freshness, too. Drink or hold." - 93 Points: James Suckling

"The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Stellenbosch contains no Cabernet Franc. It is matured 60% in new French barriques for 22 months. This is more compact on the nose than the Franschhoek bottling with darker fruit, perhaps a little more Old World inspired. The palate is medium bodied with fine tannins, crisp and focused. IT’s edgier than the Franschhoek cuvee, full of energy with a focused, graphite-infused finish lingering long in the mouth. Excellent." - 91 Points: Neal Martin, Vinous

Tasting Note: A deep and intense bouquet, with notes of black fruits and alluring sweet spices, and opulent cassis. The palate is velvety with classic dark berry flavours, including blueberries, plums, and mulberries, accompanied by hints of dark chocolate and graphite. Full-bodied with a refreshing hint of acidity that balances the wild berry fruit. The plush and refined tannins only enhance the complexity. The finish is brooding and earthy, with lingering notes of black cherry and a delicate hint of blueberry crumble.
