2021 Chante Cigale Cicada Rouge
Cicada takes its name from famed ‘singing cicadas’ of Provence.
Alex Favier carefully sources the grapes for his IGPs from family-owned land in the Vaucluse region. The Grenache is sourced from La Marteillère in Travaillan west of Gigondas, which has clay-rich soil. L’Hers, which provides Carignan, rests on limestone-filled land and has vines aged up to 30 years.
Hand-harvested and de-stemmed, the grapes undergo a short maceration in concrete before the Carignan is aged in five-year-old Burgundy barrels to soften the tannins.
Tasting Note: Aromas of fresh, ripe red fruit abound in this balanced blend of Grenache and Carignan, with dark cherry and a hint of spice. Its smooth tannins and dynamic acidity tie together for an exquisite sip.
