2021 Hans Herzog Mistral White

The 2021 Hans Herzog Mistral is a Rhône-style white blend of 60% Marsanne, 20% Viognier and 20% Roussanne, grown on gravelly, sandy soils to extremely low yields. Named for the cooling Mistral wind, this vintage combines Mediterranean flair with Marlborough’s unique microclimate to deliver concentrated aromas and rich structure.

What sets Mistral apart is its bold aromatic intensity and textural depth. It's a powerful yet balanced wine brimming with honeyed quince, verbena and herb-garden freshness.

Winemaking:

After a cool maceration of whole clusters, Marsanne and Roussanne co-ferment naturally in oak puncheons for 18 months, while Viognier follows a parallel wild-yeast ferment. All three components age on lees without fining or cold stabilisation, undergoing only coarse filtration to preserve vibrancy and purity.

Pairing Suggestions:

Pair with saffron-butter lobster or a fragrant tagine of almonds and apricots to echo the wine’s exotic spice and silky texture. Exquisite alongside roasted poultry in creamy sauces or aged Comté cheese for a harmonious interplay of weight and freshness.

Tasting Note:

The nose is honeyed quince, apricot and verbena interwoven with white florals and wild Provençal herbs. A lush texture of creamy stone fruit, citrus zest and delicate spice, underpinned by bright acidity. The finish is silky, lingering notes of almond, ginger and sea salt, with impressive length and poise.
