2021 Michel Redde et Fils Pouilly-Fumé 'Barre à Mine'

£65.00

In 2009 Michel Redde began a titanic and unique project in an old disused flint quarry called Les Champs des Froids in the Village of Tracy-sur-Loire. The site has a beautiful south west exposure and they have cleared, prepared and planted 4 hectares of vines on these very rocky flint soils.

The vines were planted with the aid of a crowbar (barre à mine).

Tasting Note: A concentrated bouquet, showcasing rich scents of tropical pineapple and passion fruit, accompanied by the classic flinty nuances of Pouilly-Fumé. The full-bodied palate is elevated with a piquant touch of white pepper and maintains its mineral character and invigorating freshness. It is advised to decant prior to serving.

Origin: Loire Valley, France

Blend: Sauvignon Blanc

Michel Redde et Fils

The Redde family strongly believe in working with respect for their vineyards and the surrounding environment and their wines are certified organic by Ecocert from the 2023 vintage. Their vineyards are managed without the use of herbicides, insecticides or any other synthetic additives.

The winery at La Moynerie is well equipped and modern. The modern presses allow a light pressing giving a gentle flow of the juice, similar to the quality obtained in the past with wooden hand-operated presses.

Vinification takes place in temperature controlled, stainless steel vats which are sealed from the air, preventing oxidation to the wines. This helps to preserve the rich aromas and flavours given to the wine by the vineyard's unique terroir. Some of the wines receive wood ageing in barrels of various sizes prior to bottling wihich gives an impression of power and richness but never obviously oaky flavours.
